Legal regulations for Camper Vans
Here are 10 key legal points for using camper vans in Tenerife.
If you want to read more detailed information on this topic click on the button below and go to our page
- 1. You can sleep and cook inside your van as long as nothing extends outside; this is considered "overnighting" and is allowed where parking is permitted.
- 2. Certain areas, like El Médano and Las Américas, have size limits for camper vans and motorhomes, so check local regulations.
- 3. Setting up outdoor camping gear, such as chairs or tables, is only allowed in designated camping areas, not during regular parking.
- 4. Camping is only permitted in official campsites or designated parking lots, so avoid setting up camp anywhere else.
- 5. Parking in protected areas, such as beaches and nature reserves, is often restricted or prohibited, so always look for signs or local guidance.
- 6. Quiet hours in residential areas typically run from 10 PM to 8 AM, and it’s important to respect these to avoid fines or complaints.
- 7. Always dispose of waste, including grey water, in designated facilities and never in nature or non-designated areas.
- 8. Fines for illegal camping can be significant, so always ensure you are in a legal camping spot to avoid penalties.
- 9. Open fires are generally prohibited across Tenerife, especially in forested or protected areas, to prevent wildfires
- 10. Camper vans must follow all standard traffic laws, including observing speed limits and respecting parking regulations.
